WHAT IS THE ELECTRONIC NATIONAL MEDICATION CHART (eNRMC)?

The Electronic National Residential Medication Chart (eNRMC) is a medication management system that is used to electronically prescribe medicines in residential care facilities, without the need for paper prescriptions.

Improving efficiencies, the use of BESTMED’s eNRMC electronic prescribing systems can help reduce the amount of administrative paperwork and reporting for prescribers, aged care staff, and pharmacists while improving medication safety for residents.

FAST FACTS

An eNRMC software product is a type of electronic medication management system that can legally be used to prescribe, supply, and claim Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) medicines. Prescribers can use eNRMC products to legally prescribe medications electronically.

No, separate approval is required for all electronic medication management systems in Western Australia and Tasmania. BESTMED is approved in these states, but not all providers are.

No, BESTMED has the deepest pharmacy integration, removing the need for pharmacy transcribing.

An eNRMC system enables care teams, prescribers, and suppliers to reduce medication errors and gain greater flexibility and coordination in the way services are delivered. The system further supports consumer-centred care and enhances transparency in communication between all those supporting the consumers’ clinical care.

An eNRMC system benefits consumers, care teams, prescribers, and suppliers, by:

• Removing the need for paper-based prescriptions and medication charts.

• Decreasing medication safety risks, such as inconsistencies between prescriber records and paper medication charts.

• Increasing visibility and reporting on consumers’ medications.

• Reducing administrative burden and potentially reducing the number of medications taken by an individual (polypharmacy).
